Where Can I Get A Makeup Lesson

Post collage: This post highlights the pros and cons of Ulta and Sephora makeup classes - from cost, to what you learn, and what you take away. Read my breakdown and see if you should attend!

Well hi at that place! And happy Thursday to yous. Today I've got a super comprehensive expect inside my feel taking some makeup/skincare classes at Ulta and Sephora. I know it is quite the departure from my food/recipe posts, just I learned a ton from these classes and thought it would be a fun post to share with you lot all!

First off, how many of you knew you can actually take classes at a local Ulta or Sephora? This is something new that I learned back in 2017. The classes at each store are quite different, so I'thousand going to exercise a detailed breakdown of everything you need to know - in case this is something you'd be interested in trying!

Ulta

How to nourish: the Ulta classes are centered around a specific brand/line of products and are led by make representatives for that product (Non bodily Ulta employees). This is a great blazon of class to take if you want to learn more than about a specific brand and grow your awareness about all that brand has to offer. I learned about the Urban Decay masterclass at my local shop when they placed a flyer advertisement it into my bag at the checkout line. The class schedules are non listed online. I would recommend calling/visiting your local Ulta (find yours here) or follow the private Facebook page for your local store to proceed track of their events.

Cost: For the Urban Decay masterclass, a $100 souvenir bill of fare purchase was required and served equally your ticket to the grade. Even though they pushed you to buy Urban Decay products at the terminate of the class, you did not have to spend your souvenir card.Since the class I took was just before the holiday season, I was ok with buying the gift bill of fare for that corporeality considering I knew some of the people on my gift listing wanted things from ULTA. I also knew going into it that I wanted to purchase the UD makeup setting spray.

What y'all acquire:This was the fun part! Up until the class, the only UD product I had owned was the Naked II Palette. I was not super familiar with other products in their make, so it was a practiced opportunity to try some new things. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that over the course of the 2-hour class, we would be led through applying a total face up of makeup (from primer all the way to setting spray) and that we could use ANY and As MUCH of an Urban Disuse production that we wanted to.

The form size was limited to 12 people, and we had 5 reps facilitating the form. This was good because everyone got i-on-1 help multiple times over the course of ii hours. The began by asking us what our skin type was and if we had whatsoever major skin concerns, then went on to match each person with a primer, foundation, and concealer that was suited to their makeup goals.

After nosotros had our color matches, we were able to choose our own eyeshadow palette, blush, brow products, eyeliners, mascara, setting spray, highlighters/profile powders and bronzers (each rep was close past to requite recs if you didn't know what to cull. Nosotros each had our set of UD brushes to apply the makeup with. You could fill in all the products you used on the sheet in the photo above and have notes almost the techniques they taught and your thoughts on the products. We were then led through a step-past-stride walkthrough of applying the makeup.

Overall, I was pretty impressed with the thoroughness of what was taught. Nosotros learned what brush to utilize with what production, how to play upwards our best facial features and right whatever skin concerns with products and techniques. I loved the fact that we could try whatever nosotros wanted. I chose to utilise the Naked II palette that I already owned because I wanted some suggestions on looks I could create with information technology that would change upwardly how I normally use it (being the applied gal that I am!).

When it was all said and washed, I had on WAY much more makeup than I normally wear. It was kind of foreign to look at myself! I knew going into it that Urban Disuse's signature looks were more full coverage/edgier than I like with my makeup, only it was fun to try something new. I was a bit overwhelmed by all the steps and products needed to create my "await," and don't think what was suggested was applied for everyday wear. Overall, I think this is a fun brand to experiment if you lot want a glam/rocker look for a concert or fancy effect.

What you lot have away:The class advertorial flyer fabricated the hope that you lot would become samples for attention. Unfortunately, this wasn't quite the instance - the samples were distributed on a tiered system depending on how much coin you lot spent that night, with a $75 minimum buy. I only spent $50 that evening (and actually concluded upward returning ane of the items because I didn't like it with my normal makeup routine), and then I didn't get any samples!

Below yous can see the looks that my friend and I created - although I liked my look, information technology was way too much makeup for me to article of clothing every twenty-four hours! I volition file the info away for a special occasion type of dark!

Pros:

  • Good way to get familiar with a specific brand
  • You can try any products in their line
  • You earn Ulta rewards points for the gift card purchase
  • The private attention you get ensures yous volition use the right products and learn new techniques

Cons:

  • You can't sign up for the class online or come across a schedule online (must contact the shop)
  • No samples provided without a minimum purchase
  • Y'all accept to buy a $100 gift card
  • Sales reps were fairly pushy at the end of the class

Sephora

How to attend: the Sephora form schedule can be accessed here. You but put in your zilch code and it will pull up a listing of classes being offered near you lot. You can easily annals online with only your proper noun and east-mail.

Price: FREE for all beauty insiders (which is also complimentary - you just demand a Sephora account)!

What you learn: the theme for the form I attended was all about skincare. It was a 1 ½ hour class devoted to helping you place your skin type, skin concerns, and and so leading y'all through the steps of a proper, individualized skincare regimen. There were 8 people in attendance in the class (with room for 12) and 5 Sephora employees (each with their own expertise) leading usa through the class.

In one case we had our skin type/concerns identified, we were given products that suited our profile and were led through the following steps: makeup removal --> cleansing  --> toning and/or exfoliation --> oil or serum --> eye foam --> moisturizer --> bb or cc foam --> light makeup --> facial spray. If you already had item products in heed that you wanted to attempt for whatever of these steps, they would bandy out annihilation they recommended with whatever you wanted. Seriously, you lot could endeavor anything in the shop! Beneath were some of the products recommended for me (I swapped a few out for others):

I LOVED all of the information that was presented and learned then much about the process of good skincare. I had a lot of questions going into the course and was and so happy that they did an in-depth discussion of specific ingredients in peel intendance products, what they exercise, what to avert, and and so on. It was extremely informative. My peel has inverse pretty dramatically over the past iii years - I'grand certain it is due to aging and moving from TX --> NE --> MO -- > TN all within 4 years (since the climates are then different). It was squeamish to become recommendations specific to what I was concerned about. I loved that they didn't promote merely i item brand and that yous could try a product in whatever toll range.

When the class was over, I had a fresh "no makeup" expect that I loved an would habiliment for casual days at home or running errands. My skin felt and so make clean, refreshed and moisturized. Plus, I loved the good for you glow that the steps helped me reach - I truly concord with philosophy presented in form that if yous care for your skin properly, y'all will spend less Time and Money trying to cover upwards issues with makeup and fourth dimension-intensive makeup techniques.

What you take abroad: much to my delight, nosotros were given samples of pare care products just for attending. We could also request samples to have domicile of any product we wanted to endeavour for a few days to make certain it did what we wanted it to. This was so prissy because yous really want to make sure something makes a difference before you invest in information technology! Below is my fresh/natural look after the grade:

Pros:

  • Easy to access the schedule to sign up online
  • Attendance is FREE with no purchase required
  • Free samples
  • Small class size and lots of individual consultation
  • Yous can try ANY production you want in the shop

Cons:

  • Classes aren't offered as often as I'd similar and there are not many time choices (most are merely offered on Sunday mornings and in big cities)

Main takeaway/What I actually utilize/own/purchased - my main takeaways were that I was using toner incorrectly (I should not be using it to accept makeup off; only to color correct), that a cleansing oil would be really helpful for my dry pare (the i I tried felt And then good) and that I was already on the correct track with the serum, eye foam, and moisturizer I was already using. I ended up finding a great deal online for a Clarisonic with a bundle of It products online after the class, and so I purchased that bundle feeling very confident/informed well-nigh what I was ownership. Stay tuned for what I think of the Clarisonic! (Update Spring 2018 - Love the Clarisonic. I can definitely tell a divergence in my skin. My pores look and feel then clean. Information technology travels well and stays charged for about a week.)

Tips:

  • If yous are in the marketplace to effort a Clarisonic - There is a peachy option on Amazon. You lot can go bundles with multiple brush heads and nigh include some great cleansing products - shop all their bundles here as well (QVC).
  • I have plant some true bays-worthy steals on meridian-of-the-line skincare products at TJ Maxx. I scored an Ole Henriksen serum kit, a set of Origins masks, and found a Glow Recipe mask for my friend - they were beingness sold there only considering the company made a change in the packaging design!

I promise that was informative. For more on fashion await over my style folio. It has all my posts in this category. New here? If and so, and y'all want to know more nearly other fun things I mail about.
